After the tragic shooting at Terminal 21 shopping mall in Korat, Thailand, survivors have started sharing their experiences of being stuck in the ordeal.

Besides the military force and police officers who put their lives on the line for the victims, the shopping mall’s security guards were another group of heroes we must acknowledge. One of them was Mr. Amnat Boonkuer, who died while protecting innocent patrons trapped in the mall during the shooting.

Translation: R.I.P. We’ve lost another good person. I would like to offer my condolences to you and your family. Mr Amnat was a security guard who died during the shooting at Terminal 21. He has been working here for many years and also has a little child. May he rest in peace.

Another post was shared, with a Facebook user talking about how his friend’s sibling had almost gotten shot – however, a security guard had taken the bullet in a heroic act of sacrifice. That person was understood to be Mr. Amnat.

Grateful for the help and sacrifice of mall staff

Translation: A security guard helped my friend and I escape as we were trapped on the 3rd floor in a fitting room. We didn’t dare to go anywhere. We heard the gunshots from time to time. Then, there was a guard who told us how to escape. We were very worried about his safety because he stayed indoors to search for others. Thank you so much for helping us.

All the security guards were courageous even though they didn’t have any weapons to protect themselves – but they had the heart to go beyond their duties to protect others.

Our hearts go out for them and their families. They prove to us that people don’t need to have any superpowers to be heroes.
