Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, Thailand is currently facing a face mask shortage, even among the medical staff in many hospitals. And while many are taking advantage of the situation and selling these precious masks at staggering prices, this taxi driver decided to do otherwise.

Last week, Facebook user Lomhaijai Thephayada shared a touching story after his encounter with Mr. Bunsong Okkitchawat, a taxi driver who was giving out medical masks to his passengers for free.

Small actions with great impact

In his status, Thephayada revealed that when he first saw the masks in the front seat pocket, he thought they were for sale. So he asked Mr. Okkitchawat how much each mask cost. To his surprise, the driver said: “they’re free, just take it.”

In addition, Mr. Okkitchawat said, “Don’t be timid, brother. Just grab one, I have a lot. It’s the least I can do.”

To return the driver’s kindness, the passenger told him to keep the change. And he ended his post by saying, “though they looked ordinary, the masks I saw today warmed my heart.”

Netizens praise driver for his kindness

The status has since been shared 15,000 times with more than 1,500 comments expressing gratitude and admiration for the driver’s charitable act.
