Crispy fried seafood in Silom
Silom is one of Bangkok’s most popular CBD areas and wildest nightlife districts, so it’s not uncommon to have food stalls situated everywhere along the hood’s footpaths.
We’re taking you to one of the humblest snack stalls in the area that is very popular among the locals – Talay Tord Saladaeng.
Here, you can munch on 3 deep-fried seafood items: crab, shrimp, and squid, that are served with a delicious sweet and sour dipping sauce. The perfect snack to have while walking around town!
Ms. Oui, the owner, told us that the stall has been serving fried seafood snacks for over 10 years, with her mother starting the business. She’s now the 2nd generation owner who runs the place.
Crispy trio of seafood items
To order, simply select the portion that you want out of 3 options (Small: ฿40, ~USD1.32 | Medium: ฿60, ~USD1.98 | Large: ฿100, ~USD3.31) they have to offer.
Also, you’re free to choose whether you only want crab, shrimp, or squid or a mix.
Although the seafood items were not fried on the spot, they were still pretty crispy when we tried them.
If you’re into super crispy munchies, you might want to focus on the Fried Crabs because they were deep fried until the shells became very crunchy and edible.
Fried Shrimps were springy on the inside and crusty on the outside. For Fried Squid, it was bouncy and dense in texture which offered a nice chew in every bite.
The dipping sauce was surprisingly interesting because it was pineapple-based, which is not very common when it comes to Thai sauces. And boy, did it gave out a strong sweet and sour taste from the pineapple, with a good hint of spice from the ground chilli.
The best part was the sauce tasted super tropical and was even slightly refreshing when eaten with the fried items.
Street stall to visit in Silom
The stall is basically a simple trolley and that sits right along the footpath of Soi Saladeang, next to the crossing.
Don’t be disheartened by the long queues because Ms. Oui was so fast at pushing out orders, so you’ll get your munchies in no time.
If you find yourself strolling along Silom road, make your way to Soi Saladaeng corner and grab yourself a bag of crispy and hearty fried snacks to-go!
