Travelling with no tickets

Because of COVID-19, Taiwan has activated preventive measures and closed its borders with a  ban on foreign visits since March 2020. As this lockdown doesn’t keep local from leaving the country, many are missing the feeling of travelling as well.

To relax the tension, Taiwan had a creative idea to open Taipei’s Songshan Airport and host an airport tour for people to visit and pretend they’re about to hop on a plane to go on vacation.

Deputy director of Taipei Songshan Airport, Chih-ching Wang, mentioned that this airport tour allows a maximum of 90 visitors to spend half a day exploring the airport per trip.

Through the tour programme, they are allowed to enter immigration, board the plane, then “return” to the country through immigration again.

Mr Wang also shared with CNN, “People who didn’t have the opportunity to take international flights at Songshan [can] use this chance to experience and learn more about boarding process and relevant service facilities.”

It’s such a nice idea to let people have a fun experience during such a time. We hope that COVID-19 will stabilise real soon so people don’t have to pretend to get through immigration and can travel for real again.
