Cheap seafood restaurant in Bangkok
If you’re looking for a hideout from busy central Bangkok with some seafood and quirky fun, come to Sathanee Mee Hoi, a seafood restaurant with a cheeky show from its male waiters.
This chill open-air restaurant is situated in Hua Mum Night Market, a popular market in Bangkok.
What to order
Hoi means “shellfish” and Sathanee means “station” in Thai, so we couldn’t miss ordering their signature shellfish items here.
We had Grilled Scallops, Steamed Mussels, and Boiled Cockles – all for only ฿100 ( ~USD3.30) for each dish! And boy, did they come in generous portions despite the price.
The grilled scallops were slightly on the dry side, but the texture was not at all rubbery. It was bouncy and had a delicious buttery scent from the glaze.
As for the steamed mussels, they were also a bit dry and still had a sweet essence to them. With that said, our mussels were super big in size and had a good bite.
Surprisingly, our scary-looking boiled cockles were succulent and cooked well – so no need to worry about any fishy or “bloody” taste with this!
We had 2 dips to go along with our seafood bites. The green one was straight-up spicy and sour which we loved, while the red one had sweet chilli flavour to it.
Overall, we wished the seafood was slightly fresher, but everything was still delicious. The dips helped enhance the flavours of each dish too.
Enjoy a fun evening at Sathanee Mee Hoi
Sathanee Mee Hoi is an open-air restaurant that comes with a “rooftop” seating area. However, do note that the 2nd floor will only be open when there are a lot of customers at the restaurant.
Although the tables were quite packed, we didn’t feel suffocated thanks to the open space.
If you’re looking forward to seeing the dance show, it normally starts from 6.30pm onwards with no fixed schedules (depending on the number of customers). Each show will take around 15 minutes and includes all-male dancers in tiny pajamas, who start dancing to the loud music.
Did the show look a bit raunchy? Yes. Was it super inappropriate? No. The show makes customers laugh and have a good time, but if you’re with family or kids, just know what you’re signing up for.
