All hotels in Krabi were ordered to close
As COVID-19 rapidly spread around the world, many airlines were ordered to suspend their flight routes. As a result, many tourists and citizens were left stranded overseas as everything happened in the blink of an eye.
In Krabi, extra safety measures such as the order to close all hotels were implemented on 4th April 2020 to prevent the spread of the virus. This left many tourists such as this Russian couple stranded in the province, far away from home.

On 18th April, Krabi Tourist Police was alerted that 2 Russian tourists were living in a tent on a cliff in Tonsai Bay. The police approached the couple and found that they had been living on the cliff for one week. The couple revealed that they were forced out of their previous hotel as the governor issued an order to close all hotels. They had no choice but to sleep in a tent on the cliff.
For safety reasons, police sent them for a medical check-up in a private hospital in Ao Nang and both were found with no fever, reports Khaosod.
The police then asked them whether they wanted to go back to Russia. The pair shared that they intend to stay in Thailand and wait for the COVID-19 situation to stabilise. As a result, the police notified the Embassy of Russia that there were still citizens left stranded in the country. They then sent them to a hotel that was still permitted to operate despite the shutdown in order to accommodate stranded tourists.
