During the COVID-19 lockdown, Bangkok took an opportunity to full-on renovate Khaosan Road, the city’s famous party street, to a better self.
Regarding its reopening date, Bangkok deputy governor Sakoltee Phattiyakul said,”We expect to open Khaosan Road by August 2020.”

The revamp was initially set to finish by February 2020, but it was later postponed.

It was apparent that the revamp did give the street a prettier look. Footpaths are now wider with a smooth and levelled surface.

Besides its new look, the road’s drainage system has also been cleaned and improved to fix any flooding problems during heavy rains.
“We also tasked the Phra Nakhon District Office and Drainage and Sewerage Dept with cleaning out pipes to prevent flooding in the area,” assured the deputy governor.
More renovations to come
Mr Phattiyakul also revealed that Khaosan Road is just the starting point of the whole area.
“In the next phase, we will renovate Rambuttri and Tani Roads to beautify the Banglamphu area,” he added.
No more tripping over uneven bricks while drunk – hooray!
