Buddhist temples in Thailand are always known as holy places that should be properly-decorated. But, this temple in Pichit took its decor game to another step by having its crematorium, buildings, and fences painted in colours of the rainbow to make it more visitor-friendly and accessible.

Wat Nong Plong (Nong Plong Temple) is located in Nong Plong sub-district, Sai Poon district in Pitchit province. For Buddhist locals, the temple is well-known as a mindfulness centre, though it has become less popular with its appearance decaying over time.

With the temple and surrounding areas looking old and broken, monks, temple staff and villagers joined hands to help restore and bring some colour to the place to make it more lively.

People have painted the fences of the temple and added mini Buddhist stupas as they believe it could help prevent thieves.

The highlight of this project is that they painted the crematorium with vibrant colours. The locals believe it could help people with their grief when cremation ceremonies are performed.

Also, the elderly think that the now-colourful temple seems friendlier and more accessible so that youngsters in the neighbourhood would feel encouraged to visit.

We’re glad to see local people helping develop the community and also hope it will be a place for locals to get a peace of mind when needed.
