Phuket beaches on lockdown

Earlier this week, Phuket Governor Phakkhaphong Thawiphat, who is also the leader of the Phuket Communicable Disease Committee, closed all beaches, zoos, and venues in the Patong entertainment area. All closures are in effect until further notice.
Besides shutting down crowded venues in the province, Mr. Thawiphat has also issued a lockdown order until 30th April 2020 to ban people from leaving and entering, both via land and sea. However, vehicles transporting necessary goods and official vehicles are still allowed.
According to sections 22 and 35 of the Communicable Disease Act, folks who fail to comply with the order could face up to 1 year of jail time and/or ฿100,000 fine.
Phuket has 62 COVID-19 cases

As of 30th March, Phuket found 9 more new COVID-19 patients, bringing the total number of infections up 62.
Most of the infected patients had visited Patong area, an entertainment district in the province popular with international crowds, much like Bangkok’s Khao San Road.
Don’t fret, beach lovers, because this is for the best. Just focus on the bright side, we might get cleaner beaches and clearer waters by the time this outbreak is over!
