Okurimono Cafe Is A Cat-Themed Japanese Cafe In Ekkamai With Adorable Desserts And Kitties

Bangkok cafe with cat-themed desserts

Pet cafes in Bangkok are often filled with quite a crowd, especially over the weekends, leaving little to no room to enjoy the food or play with animals. But Okurimono Cafe near Ekkamai is a quaint little Japanese cafe that’s away from the crowds, all while offering visitors delightful Japanese cafe fare that’ll keep you coming back.

And the best part was the 2 adorable felines walking around the cafe called Milin and Chok Dee, who belong to the owners!

Note: Okurimono Cafe is not a cat cafe, so do ask for permission before picking up and playing with the kitties. Remember to be gentle!

Cute cat-themed desserts

We started off with lil’ cat-shaped Wagashi (฿75, ~USD2.48), a traditional Japanese sweet treat made of rice dough, that is often served with tea.

Besides its cuteness, the wagashi had a soft mochi exterior and sweet red bean paste filling – so delightful and pleasant. It wasn’t too sweet either, which we liked.

The cafe also offers a special workshop on how to make wagashi desserts. Find more details about this here.

The next item we tried was the signature Japanese Cheesecake (฿100, ~USD3.31) with icing sugar. Unlike its dense and moist Western-style cousin, this cake was airier and fluffier with a subtler scent of sour cream cheese.

We then some Matcha Mousse (฿75, ~USD2.48) with chocolate cake as the base.

We liked the fact that it was not overwhelmingly sweet and had quite a dense texture to it – if you like packed mousse then you’ll love eating this. The green tea was also not overly bitter.

Along with the desserts were Hot Organic Green Tea (฿80, ~USD2.65) and Hot Latte (฿80, ~USD2.65). And, of course, they came with cute cat-themed latte art. The drink was creamy and smooth from steamed milk, which went well with the bitter green tea.

Aside from desserts, there are also main dishes like curry rice available here.

Cute cafe-hopping spot in central Bangkok

Once inside, you’ll see how the interior looks quite simple and minimal but has a nice Japanese touch. The cafe also has a little gift shop corner, where you can purchase things like trinkets, cutlery, and other knick-knacks.

Whether you want to munch on delish Japanese desserts or spend some time chilling with Milin and chubby Chok Dee, Okurimono Cafe is your go-to spot for the weekends.
