Thai motorcycle taxis fight for passengers

Transportation in Thailand has much more to worry beyond the crazy traffic, floods, and recent bus racing incident.

Yesterday (8th September 2020), Thai motorbike taxi drivers got into a gunfight in order to win more passengers and transport fees.

Translation: Breaking news! There has been a shooting in front of a new shopping mall near Wat Namdaeng, Bangkeaw, Samut Prakan. Now, the officers were investigating. Follow up for more updates.

Two groups of motorcycle taxi drivers had shelters located near each other and fought to win more passengers – despite both groups not being officially allowed by the authorities to provide services.

Only one taxi service provider could be situated at the mall, so one of the groups didn’t wait for a legal permission and tried to get more customers to chase the other group of drivers away.

After continuous gunshots, sellers and shoppers were frightened and tried to run away to a safer place.

All offenders disappeared from the scene not long after the fight. The police are now investigating the incident.

It is lucky that there were no reports on deaths or injuries. However, it’s very scary that the motorbike drivers kept guns while working – especially after the string of shootings that occurred earlier this year that resulted in deaths

We hope that this kind of incident will never happen again, just being trapped in mad traffic is already hard enough for Thai commuters.
