Last week, 2 American tourists were enjoying their trip on a mountain in Phuket when a wild monkey snatched an iPhone 10 from one of them before making its way into the jungle.

Not before long, both contacted the local tourist police to ask for help since there was no sign of the monkey thief nor the iPhone.

Police used ‘Find My iPhone’

Once they arrived, the police suggested for the pair to use the ‘Find My iPhone’ feature from another person’s iPhone to locate the one that was stolen.

At first, the signal showed that the iPhone was located down a 30-metre-deep cliff. But when they climbed down a rock pile to search the area, they didn’t find anything.

The police then asked one of the tourists to call the phone and the ringtone was heard from the hill above. Luckily, when they followed the sound this time, they found the iPhone up there.

No reports were made on whether they found the monkey with the phone.

Look out for monkeys when in Thailand

Wild monkeys may look super cute and you might want to play with them. However, we suggest you suppress that urge.

Being wild animals, monkeys can be very aggressive. They will likely steal your belongings or food when you’re not aware. In the worst case, they can attack you by biting or scratching, and you will need to get rabies and tetanus vaccines, as well as some stitches. So keep your safe distance.

Contact the police for any emergency

If you’re on your dream vacation in Thailand but find yourself in an urgent situation like this, don’t hesitate to contact the tourist police hotline 1155

The best part is this is a 24/7 number with multi-language translators to help you communicate with the police with convenience at any time.

Bravo to these 2 Phuket tourist police for saving the day by retrieving the stolen item from the wild thief.
