Thailand eyes reopening Maya Bay
Maya Bay in Krabi is arguably one of the most beautiful natural wonders in Thailand. After being used as the setting of 2001’s The Beach, it has since become a popular travel destination for visitors from around the world.
Unfortunately, mass tourism has also caused much damage to the area and affected marine life, prompting the Thai government to shut it down and let nature restore itself.

After Thailand’s tourism sector was badly hit by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Minister for Natural Resources and the Environment Warawut Silpa-Archa suggested that 2021 might be the time to reopen this Andaman gem in order to bring tourism back to life.
However, this is still a proposal and needs to be discussed among environmental experts.
Strict conditions will be put in place
If this plan becomes reality, strict measures will be implemented to protect the area as much as possible, shared the minister.
Although it is not clear what these rules will be, we reckon it will have to do with limiting the maximum number of visitors per day as well as preventing boats from getting inside the bay.
