Many workers forced to resign by companies

Many workers have lost their jobs during COVID-19, as companies need to cut down their expenses leading to layoffs. As a result, many people with no income are facing difficulties to survive.

There have been many cases recently where people turn to committing crimes with the intention of wanting to get arrested. The reason behind this is that accommodation and meals are provided for free in jail.

On 16th April 2020, YouDoLike10 and Khaosod shared a Facebook post by user Loonny Nuch. They posted 2 pictures of people surrounding a man in front of a 7-11 store.

Turns out, the man had stolen porridge and a small bag of rice in the shop as he was jobless and no one wanted to hire him. When the 7-11 staff approached him, he cried and asked to be arrested, as he believed that he could get free food every day if he was in jail.

The 7-11 staff asked the man why he needed to steal when he could have just asked for free food. He then replied, “If I ask for free food today, I will have to ask for free food the following days too.”

YouDoLike10 later shared additional information from one of the witnesses, who stated that the staff took a photo of the food the man stole and kept it as evidence. 2 other witnesses offered to pay for the food, and the man was let go.

We will get through this together

Everyone is being affected by COVID-19, whether directly or indirectly. It is heartwarming to see that there have been many people donating and providing free food and accommodation for those in need.

However, not everyone has the proper means of access to this information. There is still a long way to go, and we hope this man will get the support he needs. Let’s support each other and get through this hard time together.
