Khaosan won’t be back till next year
Khaosan Road, one of the most favourite nightlife hotspots in Bangkok among both locals and tourists, is having a year-long break and won’t come back till COVID-19 situation stabilises, which officials predict to be next year.
For the party animals who are wondering when our beloved bar neighbourhood will return to its normalcy, here’s what we know for now.

As the spread of COVID-19 has forced drastic measures to be implemented such as bars and nightclubs being shut down, as well as a curfew preventing people from heading out from 10pm-4am, Khaosan Road and its attractions have understandably taken a big hit.

Jirath Jirarungroj, director of the Baan Chart Group which owns a couple of bars and restaurants in the area, said that he can’t imagine how Khaosan would return to its glory days anytime soon, stating 2021 to be the earliest period possible.
He also mentioned the coronavirus outbreak is affecting every country in the world. Thus, it would take a long time to convince foreign travellers to come back to Thailand for a vacation.
Business experts have estimated that the outbreak has probably cost at least ฿10 billion in a loss of revenue this year. “Once you feel confident about health safety, please come back,” said Mr Jirath.
We haven’t heard from other nightspots like Thonglor or Sukhumvit yet, but we hope all things return to normal and that Bangkok will come back to life soon.
