What to eat at Jeh Muay

Pad thai is a must-eat dish when you’re in Thailand. And with the abundance of street-side stalls in Bangkok, we don’t blame you if you’re spoiled for choice.

This iconic dish is a combination of flat rice noodles, tofu, dried shrimp, beansprouts, and spring onions. Tamarind sauce and palm sugar play an important role in giving the noodles their signature savoury-sweet flavour too.

The dish comes with two prawns and a heap of noodles

We went with the Pad Thai Kung Sod (฿90). The stars of the dish are the juicy prawns that come served on the side – these are fried first, and then tossed in a sweet sauce that complements the taste of the pad thai.

The prawn is succulent and fresh, and though it’s fried, the meat wasn’t overcooked or tough. We also really liked the texture of the noodles – it wasn’t too dry or “watery” with sauce.

A must-visit stall in Samyan

This family-run business has been running for 5 years, and gives customers a taste of authentic Thai street food. It is a simple shop but don’t underestimate how no-frills it is – there’s always a long line of customers, so you know it’s good.

It is also surrounded by malls like Samyan Mitrtown and Chamchuri Square, making it a great spot to drop by for supper after a night of shopping.

The staff was very enthusiastic and helped us get a seat as soon as they could. Another thing we liked was that the service was really quick – we didn’t have to wait too long for our food to be served.
