Food at Hipstone Cafe
As odd as it is to start with dessert, we decided to try the cafe’s signature item first; the Dinosaur Egg with Fudge Brownie (฿199, ~USD6.59).
This has ice cream scoops encased in a cute dinosaur eggshell made from white chocolate, served atop a bed of homemade fudge brownies and Oreo cookie crumbs.
You can choose from vanilla or chocolate flavoured ice cream
Before digging in, we had to “hatch” the egg with a little mallet, which added some fun to the process. The white chocolate shell was sweet and had a good crunch to it.
Although the vanilla ice cream was nothing out of the ordinary, the brownies were dense and had a rich chocolate flavour and tasted perfect when paired with the ice cream. The added Oreo crumbs also gave the dish some texture.
The plates here look like rocks
As our main, we went with the Spaghetti Khee Mao Moo (฿119, ~USD3.94), a spicy spaghetti dish with Thai basil, dried chilli, fresh pepper, and pork.
This one is definitely for folks who love spice and heat, which we got from the basil and chilli. The pork was tender while the spaghetti was cooked al dente. It also absorbed a good amount of flavour from the mix of ingredients it was cooked with.
You can pair your meal with drinks like Iced Latte (฿75, ~USD2.50) and Mocha (฿75, ~USD2.50). Or, go with the colourful and fizzy Italian Soda (฿70, ~USD2.30) which has 3 flavours to pick from: strawberry, blue soda, and kiwi.
Fun cafe to visit near Bangkok
Though the cafe is inspired by the stone age, it had an overall cute vibe to it. It felt like we were sitting in a modern-day cave, with the bumpy white walls and adorable dinosaur plush toys all around.
Even the menu is designed to look like a stone tablet
If you want to go all out and take some fun photos – like we did – go to their front yard or back garden which has wooden benches and trees all around.
Spend your weekend away from the bustling Bangkok in this stone-age themed cafe in Nonthaburi for a cool Jurassic-style experience!
