1. Q&A Bar — train carriage speakeasy in Asoke

First on the list is Q&A Bar, a train carriage-themed speakeasy in Asoke that’s designed to make you feel like you’re embarking on a journey from the moment you enter the bar.
The interior of the bar itself resembles a train carriage – think Snowpiercer IRL – with a moody candlelit interior.
The menu at the bar is unique to its theme and a visit here means you’d have to try their Signature Cocktail Journey. It is a special ‘drink bundle’ with classic cocktails that are inspired by a deck of cards. These cards come with a “passport” that you’re issued after purchasing the drink bundle.
If not, you could also go for their signature Rough Negroni – a gin-based cocktail at ฿390 (~USD11.28).
This bar is perfect for anyone looking to have a good time in a classy and private lounge. Do make sure to come well-dressed – just like a first-class passenger from Murder On The Orient Express.
Since the lockdown, they have also rebranded themselves as a secret ice cream parlour. So come indulge in a scoop (or two) of some of their alcohol-infused sorbets and ice cream – all proudly handmade and sourced with fresh ingredients.

If you’re looking for something a little lively with a helluva personality, then you’ll adore the spicy Latin speakeasy we will be sharing next.
2. Havana Social — secret telephone booth entrance to a Latin speakeasy
Havana Social is one of the hottest bars/clubs in Bangkok right now. Situated in an unassuming alleyway on Sukhumvit 11, this bar prides itself on being themed after a secret pre-revolutionary 1940’s Cuban cocktail bar.
Once you get the code of the day from the bouncer, you’ll have to key it into a phone booth here. Once done, a secret door will open right behind you and all you gotta do is to follow the music.
Push that door open and you’ll be welcomed into this warmly lit bar.
Mahogany furniture and mosaic-tiled floors aside, you’ll spot 1940s antique pieces and paintings artfully draped on the walls. All these collectively make Havana Social truly feel like a treasure chest of sorts. Given that the bar also sells Cuban cigars, I can almost imagine Captain Jack Sparrow smoking and lounging here, drunk on their delicious rum.
While you’re here, we’d recommend picking rum-based drinks or shots. We went for their cheeky Cuba Libre – a rum-based cocktail which costs ฿260 (~USD7.52). Topped with Coca-Cola cubes, this robust mix is definitely their signature drink.
If you’re anything of a spicy señor or señorita, the vibes and cocktails here are sure to wow you at every turn.

3. Find The Locker Room — a high school locker-inspired speakeasy
Find The Locker Room bar is exactly as its name describes. You may find the name a tad familiar, but the little sister of the uber-famous speakeasy #FindThePhotobooth has since closed its doors back in December 2021.
The entrance is a series of lockers all stacked on top of one another, where you’ll have to identify the right one to lead you into the sleek LED-lit bar itself.
For those of you familiar with Netflix’s Locke & Key series, finding this speakeasy feels exactly like in Season 2 of the show where opening a high school locker leads you to a whole new world. I’m sorry friends but IYKYK, no spoilers here.
The drinks made in this modern bar are also impressive, thanks to the top bartenders that they’ve assembled to conceptualise and make this place a reality.
As a fan of the classic Bloody Mary, I decided to go for Bartender Neung’s version whilst I was here. Known as the Bloodless Maria, Neung replaces the regular vodka base with Jose Cuervo’s traditional tequila & mezcal.
While it looks clear as day (hence, bloodless. Hah!), the taste was just as spicy with hints of tomato coming through thanks to the addition of clear drops of tomato vermouth. You can swing by and sample this drink for yourselves at only ฿390 (~USD11.28).

Now that this wonderful speakeasy has gone viral on TikTok, it’s not-so-secret anymore. Be sure to grab your friends and hit up this bar before it gets too crowded at night.
This next entry on our list is a speakeasy styled around a very different aesthetic, meant for those who want a taste of that hi-so life with a touch of privacy.

4. 008 Bar — private lounge for brooding Kingsman wannabes
008 Bar is situated on the 11th floor of the boutique Akyra Thonglor Hotel. There’s no sign in front of the bar so once you find the giant wooden doors from the outside, you’ll have to give it a push before being welcomed into a cosy corner where some 1930s props await – like a typewriter and old photographs. I did mention Sherlock Holmes vibes, didn’t I?
There will then be an LED walkway that leads you into the rest of the bar. Spacious with a partition separating the bar into two parts, you could either choose to take a seat by the bar counter or pick a private booth for a date.
While here, pick from an extensive menu of signature cocktails inspired by the Prohibition era. Their rum-based Pyroblast includes a blend of cinnamon and other spices that the bar’s founder, Milk, discovered when she was reading a book on the Lost Recipes of Prohibition.
Going for ฿420 (~USD12.14), this price point is rather steep compared to other bars on this list. However, we find the flair the bartenders have in preparing the cocktails, the taste and the ambience of this cosy bar justify it well.

5. Rabbit Hole — unassuming sliding door to a majestic 3-storey bar
The Rabbit Hole is probably the closest to what you’d expect at a modern speakeasy, albeit with some literal surprises in store. When you approach the premises, you’ll spot this sliding door by the side of the road first. Slide it open without knowing what to expect and then, BAM. 3-storeys of sophisticated and edgy industrial decor will greet you.
Try to see if you can spot the ever-recognisable red wall of liquor fame – the facade glows with a deliberate LED light mosaic facing the loft area. And just like Alice as she spirals down that rabbit hole, the drinks here are meant to take you on a similar trippy journey.
Guests can either go hard and heavy with whiskey or light and chill with a refreshing pop of G&T. My fellow G&T fam, holler back at me please.
As a gin lover, I went straight for their Hendricks-based Mad Hatter cocktail. With a cheeky addition of absinthe and smoked orange bitters, this drink is a complete festival for your tastebuds.
Going for ฿350 (~USD10.12), this strong yet refreshing cocktail is perfect for those who are indecisive but want something exciting to kickstart your one night in Bangkok.
So if you have yet to experience the wonders of a speakeasy, make sure to pop by this charming establishment which not just prides itself on its design but also its extensive cocktail menu.

The Key Room No.72 in Ari, Bangkok is the brainchild of its owner Mr. Josh, inspired by his travels. Going with the theme of travelling, the only way to get into this hidden bar is as its name suggests: to request for a keycard at the front desk of The Josh Hotel, as though you are checking in for a night’s stay.
The decor here is pretty impeccable. Awash in a deep red and furnished with velvet, the bold bar is striking, to say the least.
As for the drinks, bartenders here choose to serve with style. Decked in dapper vests and rolled-up sleeves, their resident bartenders’ sole aim is to blend and serve up drinks to match every guest’s tastes.
We love that there’s a wide selection of liquor and the bar will be stocked with plenty of drinks on hand — regardless of what mood you’re in. For those of you looking for something a little sweet and refreshing, try vodka-based The Marilyn 1950s at ฿350 (~USD10.11).
Deceptively simple but a whole lotta fun — we’d describe this drink as Marilyn back in the day — ideal company to kickstart any night.
If you prefer your bars with an air of mystery and refinery, make sure you hit up The Key Room No.72 whenever you’re in the heart of the bustling city.

Hidden within the famous European restaurant Harvest lies The Woodshed. As the names suggest, the running theme that marries the two establishments is authenticity.
With luscious leather seats and soft candlelight peppered across the “barn”, The WoodShed feels like a celebration of rustic beauty. The best part is, that there’s even a live jazz band here to elevate your whole experience.
The drinks here are prepared with flair and often topped with beautiful flowers or herbs that stick closely to the bar’s theme.
FYI, the bartender here is highly skilled and will certainly acquiesce, should you request for him to create a custom drink for you. While here, be sure to try the bar’s gin-based cocktail named, Red at ฿365 (~USD10.55). With the red currants bringing out warm subtle hues of red, we think the cocktail couldn’t have been named more aptly.
For those of you in search of a speakeasy with some charm, then look no further than here. With a touch of countryside simplicity, and yet rich with personality, it’d be hard to leave once you enter this beautiful space.

8. Tichuca Rooftop Bar — tiki tropicana and jungle vibes with a view
If you’re thinking of some Tiki Tropicana or jungle party vibes, then definitely look no further than Tichuca Rooftop Bar.
Resting on the 46th floor of the T-One building, this bar not only promises a stunning view of Bangkok’s skyline but comes with a giant LED-lit tree that gives us major Avatar vibes. Yes, the blue ones in the dystopian Amazon, not the Legend of Aang.
Depending on when you visit, Tichuca has something up their sleeve for you. On a casual night out, feel free to indulge in one of their Tiki-style cocktails that will be a nice pick-me-up after a long day. For ฿380 (~USD10.99), try your hand at their New York Sour – a whisky sour with an added float of dry red wine.
Now, party animals, listen up. They also throw parties up here at times – check out exhibit A below for a UV-neon themed dance party – centred around that giant LED tree.

A final note is that we were pretty impressed by this bar’s excellent service. As it started to pour heavily during our visit, the staff kindly assisted us in moving to another level in order to continue our night. All while keeping the mood up and lifted. Wet weather plan? Check.
Undoubtedly one of Bangkok’s hottest rooftop bars at the moment, Tichuca Rooftop Bar warrants a visit from any lover of fine wine and skyline.

9. Sing Sing Theatre – theatre on the outside, bar on the inside
As a theatre kid, I have definitely seen my fair share of DRAMA – in school and later on in life. LOL. Sing Sing Theatre is an addition to our list of exciting hidden bars in Bangkok for the indescribable energy that can only be experienced in person. Period.
Featuring larger-than-life statement pieces that pay a loving homage to Broadway, the decor definitely exudes a clear message for guests to “expect the unexpected” within the bar/club itself. Designed as a re-imagination of the 1930s Shanghai glamour aesthetic, its red lanterns glowing through the night allude to a whimsical, experiential journey for guests.
With drag queens, cabaret shows and live DJ performances, Sing Sing Theatre is a place that features effusive personalities who are part of its core cast who are ever-ready to deliver unforgettable performances.
For the drinks here, expect a selection of classics. Since this is definitely one of the hottest party spots in town right now – we’d stick to the basics for our orders.
So if you’re still sitting on your bum wondering where to head on a hot and humid night in Bangkok, put on your best dress and some make-up, and hit up this bar for a night to remember.

10. J. Boroski Bangkok — a candle-lit secret New York-style bar in Thong Lor

Hidden in a small alley in Thong Lor, J. Boroski Bangkok is not a bar that one would stumble upon easily. Named after its masterful mixologist, Joseph Boroski, this bar has an interior decor that promises a distinctive experience for enthusiastic bar-goers.

What’s so special about this bar is its dark, intimate space illuminated by flickering candles housed in whiskey glasses, creating an inviting ambience that beckons patrons to settle in, relax, and soak in the atmospheric vibe.
As you sip on your cocktail, let the dim light reveal a New York industrial-designed panel embellished with meticulously arranged rows of steel scarab beetles behind the bar.

11. Wallflowers Upstairs — a rooftop bar surrounded by a garden in Chinatown
As its name suggests, Wallflowers Upstairs has its storefront and window ledge decked with several species of plants. Upon spotting “Wallflower” above the entrance, you’ll realise that you have indeed come to the right place. At a quick glance, you can tell there’s a touch of something special waiting to be uncovered within these walls.
Once you enter, you might be able to guess that this building is over 80-100 years old but that’s normal for buildings in this Chinatown area. That said, the dilapidated texture of the walls and ceiling match well with the plants positioned around the place.

The bar offers a calming and cosy experience with its greenery rooftop, featuring two seating zones: an old rustic garden and a zone adorned with vintage furniture with a panorama of centuries-old shophouses in Yaowarat.
