Earlier this week, Facebook user Rachnat Wanitsombati shared a heartwarming story about the governor of Loei province, who secretly redeemed pawned items for 44 people affected by the worsening economic situation due to COVID-19.
Loei Governor Chaiwat Cheunkosum has reportedly redeemed pawned items, mostly building tools and kitchen appliances which are deemed essential, from a pawnshop in Loei Municipality.
“I was brought to tears when the pawnshop called. I’m a vendor and I can’t make money because a market is closed.” A woman who pawned an electric drill for ฿300 told Matichon.

Besides redeeming the pawned items, Mr. Cheunkosum also gave out food relief, including chicken eggs, instant noodles, and rice to people who came to collect their goods.

The governor also tried to be discreet and asked the pawnshop to give them out instead of doing it himself. Additionally, he told the pawnshop’s manager that he wanted people to pay it forward instead of thanking him.
The governor praised by netizens
The post has gained over 5,800 shares and around 2,000 comments, most of which praised the governor for his generous and caring spirit.
