As the majority of Bangkokians are using disposable masks to protect themselves from COVID-19, the city’s governor Aswin Kwanmuang has reminded us to dispose of used masks properly.

Used face masks are classified as hazardous waste, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, and we must dispose of them accordingly by throwing them into designated bins for hazardous waste.

The governor also ensured that Bangkok has placed the red bins in various spots around the city, including hospitals, district offices, and public parks.

Don’t have them in your area? Do this

If you can’t find any red trash cans in your area, put your used face masks in a clear plastic bag and seal it with a rubber band.

You can also write on the bag with a permanent marker to make sure that other people, especially garbage collectors, will immediately recognise what’s inside and be more careful when clearing it.

Take time to find the red bin or carefully throw your used masks for the sake of other people’s well being.
