Khaotanyong National Park staff warns of saltwater crocodile

The ocean is a go-to relaxation spot for many, including crocodiles.

On 28th December, officials at Khaotayong National Park in Thailand’s Narathiwat province warned beachgoers against going for a swim in Ao Ma Nao Bay due to reports of a saltwater crocodile in shallow waters.

In 2017, there was a saltwater crocodile spotted around Bang Tao Beach in Phuket as well.

Experts such as Dr. Thon Thamrongnawasawat, the Faculty of Fisheries’ Deputy Dean at Kasetsart University in Bangkok, said that in 2013 there was another saltwater crocodile spotted around Mai Khao Beach, Phuket. He added that saltwater crocodiles in nearby areas like Burma and Sumatra often swim towards beaches in the South of Thailand.

Always keep an eye out on the beach

While it can be tempting to let your guard down on holiday mode, saltwater crocodiles and other critters can pop up any time in Thailand’s waters.

So, it’s important to be alert and help keep an eye out for others to stay safe.
