Good news for locals and the rest of the world; local institution Chulalongkorn University (Chula) has set a goal to make COVID-19 vaccines on their campus, and they’ve started a fundraising campaign to build a factory for it.

The campaign, dubbed “Covid-19 Vaccine for Thais”, aims to raise 500 million to build a factory at the university’s Samyan campus, said Chulalongkorn president Bandit Euaporn as shared by Bangkok post.

Baiya Phytopharm, a medical start-up company formed by Chula, is contributing to the COVID-19 vaccine programme by using tobacco leaves with low-nicotine to stimulate antibodies. The company recently developed the “Baiya Rapid Covid-19” test kit which used the same ingredient.

In June 2021, they will conduct human trials with 300 volunteers and are expecting to launch their final-stage human trials with 10,000 subjects three months later.
