Chiang Mai Is Having A Gorgeous Flower Festival Until The End Of February 2021

Flower Blooming Festival in Muang Kaeo

We often associate the winter season with grey fog and a dull atmosphere, but Chiang Mai begs to differ. It’s hosting the Flower Blooming Festival In Muang Kaeo, a flower festival that paints Mae Rim district vivid colours.

The festival is now open to the public to admire these cold climate flowers up close, which is a rare opportunity to have in a hot country like Thailand. You’ll get to see special blooms like crimson cockscomb, purple marguerite, and white cutter aster. These flowers can bloom best during the winter months.

For this reason, this festival doesn’t have an exact end date, but we can assume that it should be over by March, which is when the temperature gets warmer.

The entrance fees start from just ฿50. However, each plantation has a different rate because these areas don’t belong to just one person but almost everyone in the village.

Here are 4 main plantations to visit:

This is the second time Muang Kaeo village is hosting the festival after last year’s run proved successful.

Throughout 2019’s winter months, Mae Rim district welcomed around 5,000 visitors per day and generated up to ฿100 million in revenue according to Bangkok Post.

It took 78 farmers to transform the land of around 80 acres into the beautiful plantations we see now.

Spending a couple of days in Chiang Mai while enjoying the cold weather as well as beautiful flowers seems like a perfect year-end trip.
