Which item best defines your nation? For this Taiwanese designer, the country’s signature “boba teas” were deemed worthy of being on the cover of their passport.
Taiwan News reported that Yu Yen-chih, a designer in Hualien, has illustrated 2 versions of a bubble tea-inspired passport cover.

The first version has a “Taiwan Passport” written on top of a sea of floating black boba pearls.

The second cover offers a more minimalistic aesthetic with a tiny illustration of a cup of bubble tea being put in the centre. It even comes with a straw – how cute!

The designer was actually inspired by one of the new passport designs, which was a cup of golden bubble tea, proposed by the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Legislator Chung Chia-pin.
He made the proposal on 20th April 2020 in an interpellation session to urge the Foreign Ministry to remove “China” from its passport and steer clear of misunderstandings altogether.

Taiwan’s official name “Republic of China” has been a great source of tension between the country and Mainland China.
However, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Hsu Szu-chien said the government must listen to public opinion before taking any action.
According to the news outlet, Yu Yen-chih’s passport design has been praised for its modern look and cute factor.
We wonder what item would make it on the Thai passport cover. Share your thoughts in the comment section!
