Bangkok’s Chinatown, also known as Yaowarat Road, is the place where you can find all sorts of food – from delicious savoury street food to dessert stalls with long queues. And if you’re looking for some good Chinese cuisine, there is no better place to be.
One shop that offers a traditional dish made from fresh ingredients is Hoo Chalarm Nam Deang Brandy Nong New. This humble stall sells Hong Kong stir-fried noodles cooked over a big fire wok.
Wok-fried Hong Kong noodles with seafood
This isn’t your ordinary street side stall. With dance music and a huge fire wok, this shop draws the attention of many passers-by, both locals and tourists. You’ll also see many people stopping to take photos of the chef having a good time cooking.
Cooking with a wok is considered to be a signature cooking style in Chinese cuisine, which gives each dish that classic wok hei taste. If you’re not familiar with the term, it literally translates to “breath of a wok” and refers to the smoky flavour unique to this style of cooking.
We couldn’t wait any longer and decided to order their classic dish: Hong Kong Stir-fried Noodles (฿100, ~USD3) (฿200, ~USD6) (฿300, ~USD9). When cooking, the chef adds oil to a burning hot wok and mixes all the ingredients together – he even puts on a show by tossing everything together in the air.

The dish is made up of chewy HK noodles made from wheat flour, bean sprouts, and our faves – juicy crabmeat and abalone slices. Considering these “premium” ingredients, the price is really worth it.
The noodles were well-seasoned and were not too salty or oily. Plus, they were springy and had a good bite. It also offered a variety of textures, from the soft abalone to crunchy bean sprouts.

Do note that each dish is prepared fresh per order, so you might have to wait up to 30-minutes for yours to be ready. However, thanks to the little cooking show the chefs put on and the vibrant street-side vibes, you’ll not realise the time passing.

Aside from HK noodles, there are other dishes served here like Fish Maw Soup (฿100, ~USD3) (฿200, ~USD6) (฿300, ~USD9) and Hong Kong Stir-fried Abalone With Oyster Sauce (฿300, ~USD9) (฿500, ~USD15).
Try these delicious noodles at Yaowarat Road
Keep your eyes peeled for the giant signboard that reads “ห้างทอง โซ่วเซ่งเฮง” (So Seng Heng). Hoo Chalarm Nam Deang Brandy Nong New will start getting set up at around 6.30PM right in front of this shop.
The area sits around 10-15 people at a time, but everything moves pretty quickly. There is also a staff member that helps with the queue and tables, so don’t worry about it being disorganised.

We were lucky to have gotten a seat right by the cooking area, and it felt like we had VIP tickets to see the wok cooking show. Needless to say, I was super excited and forgot all about my hunger for awhile.
With the high quality of food and reasonable price, this is another awesome choice at Bangkok’s Chinatown that foodies shouldn’t miss.
