The Hidden Milkbar – Aussie-inspired cafe in Bangkok
With large shopping malls and bustling restaurants popping up all over the city these days, smaller eateries with cosy atmospheres are not as easy to find these days. But that doesn’t mean you won’t find them in Bangkok.
Tucked away in the artsy Charoenkrung neighbourhood, The Hidden Milkbar is an adorable Aussie-inspired cafe with a pink theme. It aims to bring people together in a quiet environment to chit-chat over cool drinks and food – here’s what we got there.

Hidden behind a secret red gate
Film and art geeks would be familiar with the Charoenkrung area, which houses the Documentary Club in Warehouse 30 and Thailand Creative and Design Centre (TCDC).
When here, look out for a secret red gate that hides a pastel pink wonderland beyond.
It’s located just a few steps from the central post office at Soi 32, so keep your eyes peeled. You’ll spot a mysterious red and pink entrance sitting quietly with an ice cream logo above – that’s your clue.

Once you make your way up to the 3rd floor is when you’ll be greeted with the actual entrance to the cafe. Right as we stepped in, we knew that this was a photo-lover’s paradise. It has an awesome retro vibe with cool photo checkpoints all around.

Aside from the cute interior, there is another door that will lead you to a red staircase for an outdoor shoot moment.

The food at The Hidden Milkbar
Good cafe vibes should be matched with equally good food, and The Hidden Milkbar will not disappoint. Inspired by the vibrant cafe scene in Australia, this nook serves up a delicious selection of food and drinks.
We went straight for Fairy Bread (฿160), a vanilla milk frappe inspired by the Australian snack of the same name. It comes topped with colourful rainbow sprinkles, puffy whipped cream, and a maraschino cherry.
The drink isn’t just good for IG. It will help with your sugar fix too – it has a rich vanilla taste and is very creamy, along with extra crunch from the sprinkles.
If a milkshake is too heavy for you, go for something light and fizzy like the Lemon Lime Bitter (฿120). The soda and a sweet and sour taste thanks to the mix of limes and lemons – plus, it has nice “layers” before mixing for a nice photo.
Next up, we got some cute Cornflake Cookies (฿60) and Brownie Froot Loops (฿80). These are available at the counter to order straightaway.
While here, don’t forget to give their Australian cakes a try too. Their bestseller is the Lamington (฿150) – a traditional Aussie chocolate cake with toasted coconut shreds and raspberry sauce.
If the normal lamington just won’t do, try their special Corn Caramel Lamington with homemade caramel sauce and cornflakes

As we couldn’t give their lamingtons a try on a weekday, we went with the Peach Melba (฿150). This is another popular cake here – so we’re lucky to have scored the last slice! This is a vanilla and white chocolate mousse cake with a layer of peaches and crumble.
We were surprised at how strong the taste of peach was in the cake. The slightly-torched peach on top also added a nice juicy and fresh flavour to the dish.
Cosy cafe to visit in Bangkok
If you’re looking for a cute cafe to visit for a nice brunch date with your friends, The Hidden Milkbar is where to go. Plus, you can visit the 2nd floor after you’re done with your food to check out the gallery that hosts different exhibitions on rotation.
Charoenkrung is also home to various street food stalls, bars, and cool street art, so drop by for a fun weekend out.
