Govt Extends Restrictions Until End Of August, Experts Predict 60K Daily Cases If Measures Are Lifted

Lockdown restrictions are extended until the end of August

Last month, Thai officials announced that they may have to follow the lockdown model used in Wuhan to curb the rapid rise of daily Covid-19 cases. Shortly after, the administration implemented stricter measures.

Due to the escalating situation, the government has announced earlier this week that the regulations will continue until the end of August.

Here’s what the measures are and what they mean for everyone.

Covid-19 restrictions to continue throughout August

Mr. Anucha Burapachaisri, the government spokesman, clarified on 16th August 2021 that the Thai government has decided to continue with the current restrictions until the end of this month.

This means that public spaces, like shopping complexes and gyms, will remain closed and restaurants cannot offer dine-in services.

According to experts, the nation may face 60,000 to 70,000 daily cases next month if these restrictions were unimplemented, reported Globe. Therefore, the regulations are necessary in curbing the transmission of the virus.

Gov’t encourages more Covid-19 public testing

Workplaces are encouraged to conduct more widespread public testing, especially those that require their employees to show up at work. Currently, a majority of the state’s employees and private staff have to work from home.

Keeping ourselves and others safe

The current situation, as well as safety measures, discourage us from attending public outings. Though it’s normal to miss our friends and the activities that we enjoyed before, it’s vital that we follow these regulations to keep ourselves safe.

We hope you’re also taking care of your mental health while adapting to these times as well.

What do you think? How are you doing in the midst of these lockdown measures?
