Abandoned Mansion Bangkok Is An Underground Speakeasy With Early 1900s Gangster Vibes & Live Jazz Music

Abandoned Mansion Bangkok: Underground prohibition-themed bar

The Thai streets have some of the best ambiance when it comes to street food. But if you’re looking for a classy vintage ambiance, Bangkok offers that too. Abandoned Mansion is an underground speakeasy sitting underneath The Coach Hotel that looks like the American Prohibition era brought to life.

Here are some of the highlights from this underground bar.

Snazzy ambiance underneath a train-themed hotel

Abandoned Mansion has all the glamour and social draw of a Gatsby-style party. From the red carpet adorned on the stairs leading down to the underground bar to the fancy chandelier hanging from the ceiling, you can be forgiven for thinking that you’ve just stepped into the American 1930s.

The bar is hidden beneath The Coach Hotel which sits near BTS Asok. Its hidden nature only adds to the appeal since it’s modeled after Prohibition-era speakeasies when alcohol sales were outlawed.

If you’ve ever seen some of those vintage movies, then you know that none of this ambiance is complete with some jazz. And Abandoned Mansion has that in droves with a live jazz band playing some of the era’s most famous classics.

Make sure you dress the part too, so you can not only get drunk off the drinks but off the ambiance as well.

Extravagant drinks named after famous figures from the Prohibition era

While it is technically hidden, this bar is anything but lowkey. Their drinks are a feast for your eyes as much as your taste buds.

Their menu comprises drinks named after famous figures from the Prohibition era like Al Capone, John Dillinger, and J. Edgar Hoover. The drinks come in lavish containers like glass shaped like heels. Or they can come accompanied by a sculpture that’ll flip you off.

Both the drinks and snacks here have prices suitable for both the Prohibition era, adjusted for inflation, as well as the Sukhumvit area. So you might find yourself wanting to do more than just pretend to be an outlaw after a couple of drinks here.

Booking recommended

Abandoned Mansion, despite its name, is actually a relatively small and cosy establishment. With how packed it can get, it’s recommended that you book from their website in advance. This is to ensure you have seats, otherwise, you might end up in a long queue or worse, turned away at the door.

Live out your American gangster persona at the Abandoned Mansion

While it didn’t make the recently published Asia’s 50 Best Bars, Abandoned Mansion is worth a visit for the ambiance alone. For anyone who is a fan of old-school American gangster movies or a glamorous jazz bar, it’s hard to pass this one up.
