Thailand has 51 new COVID-19 cases and 3 deaths on today, 6th April, confirmed a health official. The total number of cases now stand at 2,220, with an accumulated number of 26 deaths.
This is the lowest number of new cases reported in a day since 20th March, and is half of the 102 new cases that were declared on Sunday.
All deaths below 60 years old
Spokesman for the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration Dr. Taweesin Visanuyothin said that the 24th death was a 28-year-old Thai man from Bangkok. He first fell sick on 27th March with a fever, sore throat, and cough, and visited a private hospital in Bangkok before moving to another hospital in Samut Prakan.
He died on Saturday night, after his fever rose to 39.2°C and blood oxygen saturation plunged, Bangkok Post reports.
The 2 other deaths:
- A 51-year-old Thai man who suffered from diabetes, hypertension, and obesity. He fell sick on 28th March with a headache, cough, and muscle pain. He was diagnosed with severe pneumonia and tested positive for Covid-19 on Thursday. The man died on Saturday.
- A 59-year-old Thai lady who reportedly “gambled at many locations in Bangkok” and fell stick on 29th March. She also suffered from diabetes and was admitted to a private hospital for breathing difficulties, low blood oxygen, and pneumonia. She tested positive for the virus on Thursday and died on Saturday.
Of the 2,220 cases, 793 patients have since recovered and been discharged. The 51 new patients include:
- 22 in close contact with previous patients
- 13 medical officials
- 3 attendees of religious ceremonies
- 3 people who worked in crowded places or in close proximity to foreigners
- 1 returnee, 1 foreign visitor, and 1 in close contact with overseas arrivals
7 cases are still under investigation.
Dr. Taweesin warned that people should not be complacent with the decrease in cases, as the numbers might go up once suspected cases are confirmed after investigation.
