Woman chases pigeons for a living
Chiang Mai is a famous province in Northern Thailand known for its incredible tourist attractions and historical sites. But now, the city has a brand new attraction: a live “scarecrow” at Tha Phae Gate.
On 20th August 2019, Twitter user @siravariety posted a video showing a woman waving a flag to chase away pigeons at Tha Phae Gate for tourists to capture more beautiful shots.

Local journalists who watched the video then went down to Tha Phae Gate and incidentally ran into the same woman from the video. They conducted an interview with her and found that her name is Nune, who is 30 and was formerly a housewife. She decided to pick up this odd job while waiting to pick her daughter up from school in the area, and realised she could go this to pass the time.

Nune shared that she started working here recently and receives tips from the tourists when she helps them with their photos. She earns roughly ฿200-300 a day. So, she can earn some money to help support her daughter too.

This new job was born because there is always a flock of pigeons roaming around the area, and they are really perfect at doing photo bomb. At the same time, these pigeons help tourists to get more interesting pictures as well.
This is an example showing that flying pigeons help photo more lively.

Catch her when you visit Tha-Phae Gate

Even though you might see so many pigeons in the area, feeding them is not allowed as pigeons can spread diseases. Plus, pigeons’ waste can cause the place to smell too.
They do make for a great photo-op though

Tha Phae Gate is located in Mueang Chiang Mai District, well-known amongst people as a landmark to take photos with the classic ancient brick wall. Plus, this place is where the locals host traditional activities as well.
So, if you have a chance to visit Chiang Mai, head to Tha Phae gate for memorable photos. And maybe you could use Nune’s “scare-pigeon” service to make your shots come to life.
