Thai Government Considering Exempting Vaccinated Tourists From 2 Week Quarantine

On 24th February 2021, the National News Bureau of Thailand announced that Prime Minister General Prayuth Chan-o-cha is considering exempting vaccinated tourists from the mandatory 2 week quarantine period.

Thailand’s shifting stance 


While the Kingdom of Thailand allowed visitors into the country, they maintained a firm stance on the fact that all tourists must undergo a 14 day quarantine period where they submit to Covid-19 testing.

The announcement on 24th February 2021 comes as a surprise, the government announced at the beginning of the month that they would not be participating in the World Health Organisation’s (WHO) vaccine passport initiative.


Tourism in Thailand 


The announcement seems to be in favour of tourism-based businesses in Thailand, who have suffered due to the pandemic.
