As to help students with financial difficulties, 52 Thai universities plan to offer a reduction in their tuition fees the next school year, starting in August.

The Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation said on 15th April 2020 that the universities have come up with a plan to reduce tuition fees for students in their campuses during this crisis. This plan aims to help students dealing with financial issues and will be put into action in August when the new school year begins.

Aside from reducing tuition fees, some universities are offering their students a refund and extended payment as well. This includes:

  • Thammasat University offers a total of ฿15 million scholarships to students.
  • Chulalongkorn University gives students back dormitory deposits.

Other universities will reduce around 20-25% in tuition fees next semester in August, depending on each department, faculty and university.

Schemes for schools’ tuition fees to be announced

Besides moving school reopenings to 1st July 2020, other schools nationwide haven’t announced any financial reductions for their students.

However, Education Minister Nataphol Teepsuwan said that as grade 12 students need to take a variety of exams, the minister is finding a way to make them take just a single exam. It should be like the SAT (Scholastic Assessment Test), the admission test used in the US, added Mr. Nataphol.

We hope that the outbreak will be soon gone so that students can resume their studies as school life with their friends as per normal.
