On 15th October 2022, Dailynews reported that a thief returned a Brahma statue after he had stolen it from a shrine in front of a school in Phetchaburi. However, the Brahma statue came back a little different. It was now repainted a bright blue, and its appearance – and re-appearance – caused a stir in the community, shared the surprised Facebook user who had posted about the theft before.

The ‘thief’ said to her that he thought the statue didn’t look beautiful, so he took it and got it painted blue. At a later time, it was further reported that the thief was a mentally ill man who liked the blue colour very much. Apparently, his entire house was also painted blue.

Netizens believe that blue is the thief’s favourite colour

After the news went viral, many eagle-eyed netizens mused that the thief must like blue so much; as they noticed in the pictures that his motorcycle was also blue. Others thought that the statue also looked rather beautiful in its new coat of blue paint.

Translation: You should have asked Brahma first if he wanted it.

Another netizen stated the thief did that without asking for permission from Brahma.

This Facebook user expressed that the colour of the thief’s motorcycle said it all.

A woman said that colours don’t matter if we have faith in the god.

At least the thief returned the statue

Now that we know he was of unsound mind, we find it hard to blame him completely for doing that. At least he returned the statue and didn’t do any serious damage to the religious artefact.

Moreover, we agree that this new coat of paint probably won’t affect people’s faith in Brahma.

For the time being, we’re not sure if someone is going to do something about the blue Brahma statue or just leave it as it is. However, we hope that the man will give others a heads up in the future, before painting them blue again as it could land him in trouble.
