Officials consider travel bubble with China and Malaysia

On 7th February 2022, the possibility of a travel bubble between China and Malaysia was floated by Government Spokesman, Thanakorn Wangboonkongchana, according to Bangkok Post.

The report further stated that multilateral arrangements between China, Malaysia and Thailand would kick off this month.

Under the proposed arrangement, inbound travellers from Malaysia and China would not need to qurantine upon arrival. However, officials stated there will be regulations on the following:

  • Number of visitors from each country
  • Type of visa
  • Specific Flights
  • Accommodation
  • Tracking

These systems will be put in place to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

Authorities reassure public that situation is under control

With news about new travel programmes typically come concerns about safety and potential clusters.

However, the government made an announcement on the same day that could help mitigate such worries.

Earlier on 7th February 2022, health officials stated that daily case numbers are “nothing to worry about”, as published in Coconuts Bangkok.

The publication further reported that Thailand is moving to lift restrictions.

A step towards normalcy

The news about relaxed measures and new travel programmes shows the country moving closer towards the end of the current situation.

We’re hopeful and optimistic that through cooperation and public health measures, the process of travelling to Thailand will get simpler and simpler over time.

‘Till then, do make sure that you’re keeping yourself safe by washing your hands, wearing your mask and practicing social distancing.
