Thailand To Officially Start Vaccinations This Valentine’s Day, Seems Cupid Is Shooting 2 Arrows

Thailand vaccination starts on Valentine’s Day

It seems that Cupid is generously shooting two arrows this year, one to the heart and another in your arm in the form of a Covid-19 vaccine. This perfect pair was made possible thanks to the latest government announcement.

Mr. Kiattiphum Wongrajit, Permanent Secretary of Public Health, announced on Monday 25th January 2021 that the government would start rolling out Covid-19 vaccines this 14th February 2021. The first group of individuals to receive inoculation are frontline medical staff and high-risk patients.

The vaccines priorities

Following the Department of Disease Control (DDC) vaccination plan, Mr. Wongrajit stated that groups with a higher risk of infection would receive vaccination during the first of the three phases.

As vaccine availability is limited for now, health workers in Samut Sakhon and other high-risk provinces in the crimson-red zone are high-priority vaccine candidates. Following them will be the elderly population, then people with chronic diseases.

Internet speculates another Covid-19 spike

A famous disease information Facebook page Infectious-Ngai-Nid-Deaw, “Infectious Simplified” in English, proposed a theory that Thailand could possibly face another surge of Covid-19 cases.

The page compared data collected from highly infected countries such as Japan and South Korea to Thailand’s numbers, which show that the Kingdom seems to be near the end of the tunnel of the recent surge of Covid-19 cases.

According to the statistics, the page remarks that countries tend to relax precautions and let their guards down when Covid-19 cases number starts to minimise, causing another spread of the disease. Infectious-Ngai-Nid-Deaw predicts this will happen with the inoculations coming out this February.

“I don’t want anymore Covid-19 waves, infections and deaths,” the page owner said in the post. “Wash your hands, wear your masks, keep your distance, and we will get through this in no time.”

Good things come to those who wait.. and wear masks

While we have to wait a little longer for our special Cupid vaccine, what we can do right now is to help minimise the further spread of Covid-19. By wearing our masks, washing our hands and practising social distancing, a Covid-19 free future is on the horizon.
