Temple’s ฿19 noodle stall has a funny slogan
On 14th November 2022, a ฿19 noodle stall in a temple in Chiang Mai reportedly went viral after they came up with a funny slogan to guarantee the tastiness of their dishes. The slogan goes, “If the noodles are not delicious, you can punch a monk.”
It was revealed later that the slogan was coined by a monk in the temple because he wanted to assure customers that this noodle stall’s dishes were yummy. After the story went viral on social media, a lot of customers were gained overnight, especially that weekend.
Apart from the slogan itself, many customers also liked the fact that the stall sells cheap noodles for ฿19 (~USD0.50)/bowl, according to Sanook.
After the news spread out, many netizens were surprised by the slogan and wondered if anyone would really dare to punch a monk.
Netizens jokingly asked if it’s a good idea
Netizens wondered who would punch a monk if they didn’t like the noodles. However, regardless of the slogan, some netizens found the noodles tasty.
Translation: Be careful. An insane person might claim the noodles are terrible and really go punch a monk.
One man jokingly said there’s a remote possibility that someone would really punch a monk according to the slogan.
Translation: The noodles look so yummy.
One netizen actually found the noodles very appetising.
Translation: LOL Is that a good idea? Not delicious, punch a monk?
Another netizen express doubts over whether it was a good idea to put up a slogan like that.
Translation: It will be sinful to punch a monk. But the noodles were delicious.
Finally, someone expressed that punching a monk wouldn’t be a good thing and confirmed the deliciousness of their signature noodles.
Hope nobody punches a monk if they aren’t happy with the noodles
We think a slogan is always an important part of advertising a product or attracting customers. That said, some might consider this slogan to be improper as it suggests violence towards a monk who is deemed to be a respected figure, even though the idea was suggested by a monk himself.
In any case, we’re glad that the noodle stall has gained a lot of customers after coming up with a successful catchphrase to generate publicity. Finally, we hope no one really punches a monk even if they are unhappy with their noodles.
