The purpose of the shield is to separate the taxi drivers from the passengers so that both parties would feel more comfortable and safe whilst in the same vehicle.

The shield was created by the Air Force and its aeronautical engineer team. It has built-in fans that work as air ventilation and filter, as well as a small window that allows customers to pay fares.

According to Bangkok Post, the prototype design was based on the 2018 Toyota Altis model, which is commonly used as a taxi.

The total cost of this shield is ฿2,700 (~USD84) as estimated by the Air Force.

Wow, it seems like we’re really moving toward ‘the new normal’ after the pandemic.
