Even though the COVID-19 situation in Thailand seems to resulting in a lower number of cases lately, many preventive plans continue to be issued to continue keeping numbers low. On 7th April 2020, the Thai cabinet approved a proposal from the Education Ministry to postpone the reopening of schools nationwide.
Reopening postponed, learning moves online
The cabinet approved the Education Ministry’s proposal to postpone Thai schools’ reopening next semester from 16th May 2020 to 1st July 2020, announced the government spokeswoman Narumon Pinyosinwat.
This postponement is part of the preventive measures taken to control COVID-19. As teaching in a classroom is not made possible soon, Ms Narumon said the ministry will readjust the learning methods to suit the curriculum for the 2020 school year.

Education Minister Nataphol Teepsuwan added classes would be moved online, and teachers and students would be soon prepared for online classes as well. However, any limitations and concerns of varying locations will be taken into consideration as well.
Mr Nataphol also added that while online learning cannot replace learning in a classroom, it is the best way to adapt with the current situation. Plus, it is a good opportunity to use technology for teaching so that teachers can also develop their skills to give lectures online.
As far as we know, Mr Nataphol has not mentioned when online classes will start exactly. Stay tuned for updates.
