To help revive tourism in Thailand
The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) revealed on 10th November 2020 that The Ministry of Foreign Affairs decided to ease tourist visa restrictions, despite COVID-19 infections resurfacing, in hopes that it will encourage more people to visit Thailand.

Thapanee Kiatphaibool, TAT executive director for tourism products, suggested that the country’s tourism sector started to get better after foreigners were allowed in.
As a result, the criteria to apply for a regular tourist visa, which allows visitors to stay inside the country for up to 60 days or 90 days with an extension, has been eased.
While this relaxation is for all countries regardless of risk level, the Special Tourist Visa (STV) is still reserved for low-risk countries only.
Requirements still in place

According to Thai PBS World, all applicants, regardless of what type of visa they’re applying for, must have at least ฿500,000 in their savings account.
Moreover, everyone must take a COVID-19 test 72 hours before their flight into the kingdom as well as acquire health insurance with a coverage sum over USD100,000, which must also cover out-patient fees for more than ฿40,000 per day.
The 14-day quarantine on arrival is compulsory.
Let’s hope that this move helps bring back life into the tourism industry and that measures will be taken seriously to prevent the spread of the virus.
