Last week, Switzerland‘s most famous mountain “Matterhorn” was lit up with flags from around the world in support of all the nations currently battling the COVID-19 crisis.

As part of this heartwarming gesture, Thailand’s Tri-rong Flag was projected on the Matterhorn at 12.45am on 24th April 2020.

Flags from around the world were put on display daily, from 24th March to 26th April.

Humble swiss town created huge impact

This magnificent light show of hope was created by Zermatt, a small town in southern Switzerland with a population of only around 6,000 people.

A statement regarding Thailand on the town’s website touched on the cancellation of our biggest festival, Songkran, due to the pandemic:

“The always friendly population of Thailand suffers from coronavirus. Therefore, this year the Songkran could not be carried out in the usual way.”

“We send a sign of hope and strength and show solidarity with the people of Thailand.”

Besides the flags, the word “Thank you” was also projected on the mountain in 4 languages – English, French, German, and Spanish – to show gratitude to all health workers out there.

Thank you, Switzerland!
