Glamping tents and a modern house overlooking the forests in Chiang Mai
KATOB Chiang Dao is a forest resort located in Mae Mae Village – a smol village surrounded by gorgeous greenery with few hidden homestays.
Though the resort is covered in thick vegetation, guests can enjoy the view of some rolling hills and tiny houses under the reflection of the sunlight.
In the late morning, you can wake up to the sun’s rays shining towards your tent and the whole forest. With masses of sky-high trees covering the resort, you don’t need to be afraid of the heat from the light; instead, you will feel that it’s cool and relaxing while staying among these groves.
We know you can’t wait to book it but hold on. Let us take you to see inside their tents and villa first.
Modern glass villas with a fire pit
Let’s start with the most outstanding one that you can’t seem to dismiss due to its massiveness and modernity. This villa goes by the same name as its resort’s, ‘KATOB‘. It is a modern glass house with an expansive space that’s filled with lots of lux furniture. We love that it feels like we were staying in our own home in the middle of the forest.
The bedroom is enclosed with glass windows that allow you to see the greenness around the villa. Designed in ocher tones, the room also gives you a feeling of becoming one with nature.
The highlight here is this outdoor bathtub that sits prominently on the deck, overlooking the large forest in Mae Mae. If you feel like spending time alone while gazing at the natural landscape, here’s the perfect spot for you.
Next to it, there’s a fireplace that you can barbecue your sausages and meatballs when hosting a BBQ party with your friends on a cold night.
If this villa is what you’re looking for, it costs at ฿14,000 (~USD424)/night with breakfast included. The room has 2 bedrooms, a living room and a kitchen, and it allows up to 4 pax, so we’d say it’s a comfortable choice for a family or a squad of friends.
Don’t worry if you’re coming alone and think the villa above is too costly for you. They also have glamping tents for ฿2,200 (~USD66)/night with private bathrooms. Although they’re not as luxurious as the villa, the views you’ll get from the tents are pretty nice.
When the sun’s dipped into the horizon, it’s time to have fun with a BBQ-style dinner meal with your pals in front of the tent under the fairy lights rigged over the tent.
Rustic cafe with suspended umbrellas to vibe in nature
In the frontmost are of the resort lies a towering rustic cafe where you can visit for a drink and to admire mountain ranges draped in a light mist in the morning.
Upon entering the cafe, you will spot a cosy woven hammock on the right side. Look to the left and you’ll notice a counter-bar with a black board showing the beverages’ prices on the side.
After getting a drink, walk to this spacious deck at the front where you can sit by a long wooden bar table and get a view of the thick forest ahead. Considering all of the resort’s features, we find it hard not to add this resort to our bucket list in Chiang Mai.
Getting to this forest getaway in Chiang Mai
If you plan a trip to Chiang Dao, we recommend you to take this place into account when deciding where to stay. Surely, this glampsite will help you take a serene break before getting back to work in a busy city.
To reach here, we’d advise you to rent a car as you need to drive up to Mae Mae Village that sits high up on a mountain. Since it’s almost two hours away from downtown Chiang Mai, there’s no service cars that will take you there.
FYI, the roads you’ll be taking are pretty winding and narrow, so you should be driving with caution for your own safety.
