Daydreaming about dating a celebrity is a harmless fantasy we all have had at some point in our lives. For this story, however, a daydream turns to a nightmare real quick.
On 1st June, Facebook user Chloe Chloe posted screenshots of her conversation with a woman she called ‘auntie’ who asked for dating advice about a foreign man she had been chatting with on Whatsapp with for almost 2 months.
According to the woman, he was also a convict in prison – the drama!

But when the woman sent in the man’s photo, it appeared to be the famous mugshot of international pop star Justin Bieber from 2014. Apparently, the woman didn’t know who he was and kept referring to him as ‘a young boy.’
The post has since been shared for almost 5,000 times and grossed over 3,000 comments.

Sending from England?

The catfish started to develop into a straight-up scam when the man said he managed to buy the woman many gifts such as fancy handbags and shoes and wanted to send them to Thailand.
However, she had to pay for the delivery fee worth ฿15,950 (~USD500) in order to receive them. So he was able to shop from prison and ship them overseas, but couldn’t pay for the delivery fee? OK.
Fortunately, Miss Chloe was quick to warn the woman about the scam and fake photo, and she promised to block the scammer from her contacts list.
We’re glad she didn’t fall for the scammer’s ploy in the end!
