COVID-19 doesn’t only affect human beings, but also other creatures. The implementation of a nationwide lockdown has led to local monkeys becoming thieves to feed themselves, and a similar situation has arisen in Hua Hin.

On 28th May 2020, Khaosod English reported a story of local monkeys in Hua Hin, Prachuap Khiri Khan province. As tourists have been gone amid the COVID-19 crisis that has banned international travellers from coming in, over 1,000 monkeys in the neighbourhood of Khao Krailart Temple and Khao Hin Lek Fai Viewpoint are left hungry.

And, as there are no visits, the monkeys have no choice but to find food in the area on their own. The monkeys have started to steal food and threaten people on the street. Local businesses including hotels and condos were affected by this as well.

This issue has been concerned locals, with one of the villagers even spending up to ฿2,000 to buy them food. However, it’s still not enough to feed every single one of them.

On 27th May 2020, municipal officer Cheep Suksi asked for an urgent aid package to feed these poor monkeys for now as travellers are not coming back anytime soon for feeding sessions.

We hope that the monkeys will receive help soon, so they will no longer have to disturb local people for food.

If you are currently in the area and find another assembly of monkeys in need of help, feel free to report the situation by calling in to +6632 511047
