Following a series of conflicting announcements last week regarding travel restrictions, The Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) made an official announcement with the latest information for travellers from listed high risk countries.

Visitors and returnees from 6 COVID-19 infected countries and territories are now required to produce a medical certificate prior boarding their flights and upon arrival at Thai immigration. The announcement was made by Transport Minister Saksayam Chidchob on Monday, 9th March 2020.

Countries include South Korea, Hong Kong, and Macau

The 6 countries and territories classified are South Korea, China, Italy, Hong Kong, and Macau.

Those who are unable to present their health certificates to authorities will not be allowed to proceed with their journey. The minister also shared that those found with fake certificates will be reported and risk facing legal action as well as a mandatory 14-day quarantine.

Mr. Chidchob says that the imposed restrictions are in line with Thailand’s Communicable Diseases Act (2015).

In compliance with CAAT’s announcement, Thai Airways International also requires passengers from China, South Korea, and Italy to have valid health certificates before they can be issued their boarding passes. This was announced on the airline’s Facebook page on Monday evening.
