BKK’s Revamped Central Store Has A Sleek New Design & Looks Right Out Of A Tokyo Neighbourhood

Central: The Original Store

Bangkok’s chic district of Charoenkrung sees another hangout spot after Central Group decided to renovate its very first store, which was built in 1950, and turn it into a posh community space called Central: The Original Store.

Designed by Belgian minimalist architect Vincent van Duysen, the building is spacious and bathed in earth-tone colours that give it a sleek feel. The interior also gets a lot of natural light from huge glass windows on the side.

Cafe, bar, and more

At Central: The Original Store, you’ll find a cafe and bookstore nestled on the first floor. This is an ideal place to find your next favourite read while sipping your latte in style.

Another special thing about this place is, since it’s Central’s first home, there’s a lot of oldie goodies from the past put up on display.

All these relics, from old hand-written receipts to retro shopping bags, will easily take you back to Bangkok during the 50s. What a lovely and exciting touch, especially for history nerds out there.

The top level is home to Thai restaurant Krua Aksorn where you can dine at a candlelit table while taking in the charm of Charoenkrung neighbourhood.

Central: The Original Store is now having a soft opening, so head down and enjoy what it has to offer.
