Gyms close in Bangkok
First came the schools and massage parlours, next came zoos. Gyms are the next group of facilities to have implemented a mandatory 2-week closure in light of stricter preventive measures against COVID-19.
Popular franchise gyms in Bangkok such as Virgin Active and Fitness First have gone on social media to announce their temporary shutdown, prioritising the safety of their patrons.
In their posts, the gyms informed members that the closure would only be temporary from 18th-31st March 2020, in accordance with the Thailand Government mandate which was announced this Tuesday.
Facilities will also be disinfected and deep-cleaned in efforts to curb potential spread of the virus.

1 case reported at local gym
BASE Bangkok, which has gyms in 3 locations across the city, made an announcement on Facebook yesterday informing followers that a member of the gym had tested positive for COVID-19.
It was mentioned that they trained at the gym’s outlet at Amarin Plaza on 10th and 12th March 2020, prior any symptoms showing. It is unknown if the member could have been infected at that point.
The gym promptly took action and informed all staff and patrons who were present at the gym that evening. BASE also shared that the gym had implemented a “no contact” policy since the beginning of March, and thoroughly cleans all equipment twice a day before each class.
In light of the current situation, BASE will be closed for 14 days and conduct a deep cleaning of the premises.

We wish BASE Bangkok all the best and hope that life can resume as per normal for the rest of us soon!
